The report is clear - UK Government commits grave and systematic violations of our rights as Disabled people. Govt uses rhetoric that paints us as undeserving and less than, to justify keeping us in deep poverty.

The UN report has recognised that we are barely surviving under this government, not living full lives. We are subject to complex and punitive benefit systems that see us as ‘undeserving’. We are kept in poverty.

We heard this rhetoric when Rishi Sunak gave his speech about welfare reform & sick-note culture. He said it was a 'moral mission' but the UN committee had a different view describing the reforms as devaluing disabled people & undermining human dignity.

Great to hear Ellen Clifford from DPAC discussing the UN report on disabled people tonight. I just wish more mainstream broadcasters would take the same amount of interest.

As expected, the UN Committee report is damning about the UK government's failure to uphold disabled people's human rights.

The latest policy proposals will push disabled people further into poverty and exclusion.
