With a bit more education we might even hold more than those two thoughts. Does this person need help for an eating disorder might be one of them

What a fascinating talk on at Waterstones York by Dr Suzanne Fagence Cooper ; thank you. Much as we love the famous style, the idea of an Icelandic tent with only stove and pan was particularly appealing Caroline Blanckley-Sharp

Agnes you make an important point about stages of prevention - prevention of illness, prevention of further damage and of course prevention of avoidable deaths

This is an important point. Dichotomy is harmful. Most health conditions need a strategy including:
1. Primary prevention (preventing the problem developing)
2. Secondary prevention (early intervention and treatment)
3. Tertiary prevention (intensive treatment and reducing harm)

Does it have to be either/or? Many people with obesity have eating disorders. Unless we consider the so called eating disorders holistically and across the weight spectrum we will get nowhere

Preparing for my last RCPsych Eating Disorder Faculty executive meeting as the Chair, and stepping down as the vice chair to support Dr Kumar and incoming members. It’s been a privilege and steep learning curve over the last 4 years. Very pleased about credentialing, but a lot more to do.

Dr Xand van Tulleken 🏳️‍🌈 Chris van Tulleken 🏳️‍🌈 A large proportion of the medical profession, are sadly still part of the problem. We should be able to hold 2 distinct thoughts in our heads; that a) carrying too much fat is not good for health & b) the people suffering from obesity are not to blame.
