1/4 The #MAEASaM - #NMK workshop took place on the 15th – 16th April 2024 in Nairobi and focused on reviewing our progress in #Datacollection , #remotesensing , and #database development. Team leaders highlighted key achievements, challenges, and the lessons learned along the way.
To help document and monitor sites, it's important to see them on the ground. To help with this, we have been using #KoBoCollect on recent field verification missions in Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe!

Archaeology of the unusual
MAEASAM #Senegal 's team found a unique castle in the Bassari, Peul and Bédik cultural landscapes (World Heritage) during fieldwork. Built in the 2000s, this 'UFO' stands out in a site meant for preservation. #Africanarchitecture #worldheritagesite #Fort
Although they contain a mine of information, working with old maps in GIS can be tricky especially when important metadata (projection, datum, etc) are missing.
Here at MAEASaM we do a bit of detective work behind our maps to verify the information found in them!
