My mudlarking find of the year 2023: a Roman two handled cup (a handle and the base are missing). This find made BBC London News. The most complete and unusual Roman vessel I’ve recovered. ing

Last Friday, this bone knife handle with a ring and dot pattern washed up at my feet while ing on the Thames. It’s been dated to 1300-1600.

MUDLARK

I don't comb my hair,
if you must know -
I like it the way it
does itself

I like being plump -
thin and shapely
is for imbeciles

Pretty dresses,
bling and make up
are for the empty-headed

Walking in style
and eating noiselessly
is for girls who don't know
how to hold…

Last year I found a tiny Victorian child's shoe in the mud of the River Thames. It was falling apart & I didn't hold out much hope for it, but this is what happened.... ing

Fresh from the Thames Foreshore this morning is this interesting piece of wood! After a quick rinse at home it’s revealed some details and is that a date I see?! 1669? I’ll be contacting the FLO tomorrow!

One of my favourite things is to along the shores of our great city and wonder over 'who smoked that clay pipe' or 'who ate that oyster' centuries ago

It might not look very exciting, but this is one of my favourite pottery shards. Look carefully, can you see painted decoration? Those simple paint strokes are almost 2,000 years old because this is a piece of decorated Roman pot.

A lovely find by a fellow beach cleaner on Sunday, that I have the pleasure of adding to my collection. Tip Top Drinks Torquay, think it’s from the 60s.

This mudlark, this unremarkable bottom feeder, this mindless misogynist who, it could be argued, is partially responsible for the plague unreservedly casting its malignant pall over our nation. Why do you even bother to seek our affection? We. See. You. We know.
