Did you know Peter the Great came to London to learn about shipbuilding in 1698? He stayed in Deptford for for four months and spent much of his time at Deptford Docks. This statue of Peter the Great is beside the river near Deptford, just look at that clay pipe!

Ooh, mudlarking! Now, if we had a tidal river in … and talking of rivers, take a look at our new exhibition at the Market Hall Museum, Tales From The Riverbank. Entrance is free.

This is an extraordinary find, unearthed by Mudlarks along the Thames, plucked from the river and lovingly restored.

With a few replacement parts, this Omkstak is now enjoying a second life.

There are a lot of shopping trollies in the river. The largest number of shopping trolleys pulled out of the river in one day was on 15 July 2019 when around 70 trollies were pulled out of the mud at Thamesmead in east London by Port of London Authority workers.

Last year I found a tiny Victorian child's shoe in the mud of the River Thames. It was falling apart & I didn't hold out much hope for it, but this is what happened.... ing

I put this tiny sliver of a hammered on instagram ( on the ) and Gregory Edmund amazingly ID'd it as 'a Cut Quarter
of a Class XIV of Henry I, known as a Quadrilateral in Cross Fleury Type, made around 1123/1124!' Extremely impressed!

Last Friday, this bone knife handle with a ring and dot pattern washed up at my feet while ing on the Thames. It’s been dated to 1300-1600.
