Maddi Henry, Brandon Grandinetti and I had an excellent conversation with MPP John Vanthof, MPP Timiskaming-Cochrane about housing and homelessness. We advocated to increase OW & ODSP, amend bill-23, have consistent reporting of homelessness statistics and increase funding & number of AFPs. #OMSADoA

Unfortunately, workplace injuries are far too common in Ontario's #LTC homes. As resident acuity (i.e. care needs) have increased over time, the levels of care provided have declined. We need to reverse this trend in order to ensure staff and resident safety. #OMSADoA #LTC justice

The evidence is clear, for-profit #LTC homes have failed to provide safe and adequate care. Mortality and hospitalization rates are worse in these facilities compared to non-profit and municipal LTC homes. We urgently call on policy makers to phase out for-profit care. #OMSADoA

Today I learned that for-profit long term care homes have a significantly higher death rate than their non-profit and municipal counterparts. Just one of many massive care gaps between the two models of care. #OMSADoA #LTCjustice Ontario Med Students Dr. Amit Arya

Without improvements to wages or working conditions, the staffing shortage in Ontario’s nursing homes is unlikely to improve and may even intensify. We join other health advocates in calling for higher wages, and more full-time work with full benefits for #LTC staff. #OMSADoA
