‘The Peatland Way’ is a 21 mile (33km) one-way route up & across the upland plateau above the Rhondda Fawr & Afan Valleys. Passing through windfarms, forestry and peatlands, this moderately easy but long hike takes about 8 hours to complete with fine valley views throughout.

Our first June #PeatNeeds recipient is Dave O'Leary.
He will be using the grant money to help with field work related to mapping 🗺️and monitoring the rewetting of peatland under grass. 🇮🇪🌱🍃

Fen peatland restoration in north #Shropshire after pump drainage on deep #peat arable land switched off.

Left to regenerate naturally Now has 20+ hectares of water horsetail swamp with small pools with #waterviolet and many other #wetland plants.

What is often forgotten is that this success arose because 23 yrs ago the Abbeyleix Residents for Environment Action blocked diggers from draining the bog and negotiated a 50 year lease with Bord na Mona (semi-state company that owns a lot of peatland) to manage it collectively
