Got a meeting tomorrow at Parliament where I’ll be raising the desperate situation facing the public libraries sector & workforce and the need for stronger policy/legislation and more funding.
Wish me luck.

Thank you Caitlin Moran for your passionate defence of libraries on Midlands Today. Your words were so moving. I grew up in a crowded flat and wouldn’t have A levels or a degree without my local library.

Northfield and Frankley Libraries at risk under city council closure plans
bromsgrovestandard.co.uk/news/northfiel…
If Bham City Council pushes through its proposals they’ll end up with a fragmented mess, a post-code lottery of provision 😞

Hi Carnegie UK how many ‘Carnegie Libraries’ have closed since 2010 and how many are under threat now?
What’s your position on cuts to & closures off your founders legacy?

Shunned by professional orgs, blocked from jobs, reported to employer, listed as trouble makers, ridiculed, accused of being luddites etc
These things and more have happened to me and other library campaigners over the years but we haven’t stopped fighting to ✊️

How to undermine a statutory service;
Scrap library standards
Scrap advisory council
Give development to Arts Council
Slash funding
Commercialise
Privatise
Amateurise
Re-brand & over-diversify
Choose not to superintend the Act.

I know this was looked into a few years ago but has anyone successfully argued that a Carnegie Library can’t be closed or used for any other purpose due to the covenant?

Big Issue Invest helped ‘Eco Communities’ (a Social Enterprise) access finance to take over the running of Public Libraries in Lewisham.
And you wonder why I’m wary of the ‘The Big Issue’ and their so-called library campaigning. 🙄
