At dawn on the 25 Apr 1915, The Lancashire Fusiliers landed on W Beach, on the Gallipoli Peninsula, where the Turks opened fire. Despite heavy losses for the Fusiliers, six VC’s were awarded for this action.

My Grandfather who was a Lancs Fusilier himself, serving from 1917 onwards at Ypres often told me with immense pride the story of the men who won 6 Victoria Crosses before breakfast on this day in 1915.
Such bravery and sacrifice!
