Britain's smallest bees- Small Scissor Bees (Chelostoma campanularum) are abundant in the wildlife garden this thanks to woodworm-riddled standing deadwood for nesting and a variety of wild and cultivated Campanula flowers- their preferred forage plants.

Bee species number 48 turned up in the work wildlife garden for - and what a bee! The notable Yellow Loosestrife Bee (Macropis europaea). A male. Hopefully females will arrive too to collect pollen and floral oils from the Yellow Loosestrife around the ponds.

The Wool Carder Bees have been really active in the garden today between the showers. Fascinating watching this one stripping fibres from the Lambs-ear to use as nesting material, it's the 1st time I've witnessed this.

Solitary Bee Week hour
I am Nick and I am what you call a Solitarybee guardian. I will post my trials and tribulations from this year. First up a video of the different types of beehouse I use and have designed. Some experimental, some off the shelf.

It's Solitary Bee Week!! 🐝

Did you know 90% of bee species worldwide are solitary? And Species on the Edge is working hard to protect 1 of these species, the northern colletes.

My turn to ask a question on . Who makes a nest plug like this? Seems to be dried plant fibres. Looks too messy to be Osmia caerulescens or O.leaiana, but surely too small for Anthidium?
