It is day 4 of #25DaysofFishmas and I present to you a Gulf Pipefish! These cute little guys can be found in saltmarshes all along the coast. Just like Seahorses, the males keep the eggs in a pouch until they hatch. They're one of 4 Sygnathids species found in TX.

Sygnathids aren't the only #fish that give live birth - there are many others including the guppy family (Poeciliidae), halfbeaks (Hemiramphidae and Zenarchopteridae, and catfish (Auchenipteridae) . All of these groups independently evolved livebearing. #fish fact #coolfishfact
