'That this legislation is necessary is an acknowledgment of the fact that for too long, the systems adopted by our criminal justice agencies have rendered victims invisible'
Fantastic speech from Willy Bach introducing his amendment to the #VictimsandPrisonersBill
Deeply disappointed the ULS amendment was not passed today. The 28 day rule to appeal only applies to victims as offenders can do so outside of this under exceptional circumstances. When will victims receive equal rights to offenders? Alex Chalk KC MP #VictimsAndPrisonersBill
Today in the Lords ...
We'll be voting on the #VictimsAndPrisonersBill in an attempt to make it humane.
These days, Govt Bills show over-hasty writing, a lack of consultation with people who understand the issue, and a hard right wing bias.
They are clearly running out of ideas.
Great news, a firewall amendment was successfully introduced to the #VictimsandPrisonersBill in the House of Lords.
Big recognition goes to Latin American Women's Rights Service - LAWRS for their tireless work in ensuring that all survivors can report crimes safely. #StepUpMigrantWomen
📃 Coming up this week, #HouseOfLords 'tidies up’ the #RwandaBill and continues making changes to the #DigitalMarketsBill , #VictimsAndPrisonersBill , and #AnimalWelfareBill .

The Tories are failing rape survivors with barely 2-in-100 cases leading to prosecution.
The Labour Party will provide free legal advice to rape survivors, ensuring they’re supported every step of the way as they seek justice. #VictimsandPrisonersBill
This is hugely welcome - crucial that this is supported in the Commons. A long campaign by Latin American Women's Rights Service - LAWRS which shouldn’t have had to be so hard fought #victimfirst #VictimsAndPrisonersBill
Charging victims £20k for their court transcripts is unacceptable. I'm fully behind the OpenJusticeForAll campaigners and their #VictimsandPrisonersBill amendments. Let's make our voices heard and demand a fairer justice system for all.

As a bereaved mum I was never told of the right to appeal. I asked for a review on the 28th day Attorney General said I was out of time @alexchalk @shabanamahmoud we must have the same rights #Victimsandprisonersbill Please support amendment #JoshsLaw
The #VictimsandPrisonersBill has reached report stage in House of Lords - this afternoon, the inimitable Willy Bach will reintroduce this amendment ⬇️ to ensure the bill delivers on its aim to 'put victims at the heart of the CJS & increase accountability'. #JusticeDataMatters
Thank you to the brilliant Dr Baroness Newlove LLD (hc) DCL for supporting the amendments & for again highlighting how victims continue to be let down. Risk management of stalkers & domestic abusers is virtually non-existent. We must focus on the perpetrators #VictimsAndPrisonersBill
Grateful to Sir Bob Neill KC (Hon) MP and all his work on Justice Committee to ensure #VictimsandPrisonersBill is responding to evidence. His understanding of the shortcomings of Parole Board reforms were particularly insightful and I urge Govt to listen and respond to him #victimslaw
The Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme allows anyone to ask for certain Crown Court sentences to be reviewed by the Attorney General if they think the sentence is too lenient. Victims Alex Chalk KC MP must be informed of their rights #VictimsandPrisonersBill
Thank you to the incredible Janet Royall for leading the charge to ensure serial stalkers are proactively identified & managed. For too long the onus has been on victims to change everything. We must focus on closing down the perpetrators #VictimsAndPrisonersBill
Thanks to Daily Express for my comments on extortionate costs victims of crime must pay to know the details of their criminal trial. Worth watching the #Victimsandprisonersbill as victims have pursued #Parliament to approve a right to a #freetranscript express.co.uk/comment/expres…
Thanks to stellacreasy for raising many important points yesterday. She brilliantly articulated why the measures in #VictimsandPrisonersBill are insufficient and how the model of local independent victim champions could further Govt aims to make CJS work for victims #victimslaw
There’s no good reason for victims of crime in the armed forces to be excluded from the #VictimsandPrisonersBill . The Bill is badly lacking in lots of ways, but as long as it contains any improvements for victims’ rights, service personnel must be able to benefit from it too.
Offenders can appeal beyond 28 days in exceptional circumstances victims of crime must be afforded the same right @alexchalk @shabanamahmoud we need this in the #Victimsandprisonersbill Please support amendment #VictimsandPrisonersBill #JoshsLaw
