Preparing for #ArchaeologyWHGS #WHGS_YAC tomorrow at WHGS Primary! We've been looking at medieval manuscripts and will be using a variety of vegetable inks to add colour to our 'illuminated' letters.
Thanks to YAC and The Harley Foundation for the inspiration ๐
#WHGS_YAC had a great session using homemade inks (from onion skins, hibiscus flowers, avocado stones and acorn caps) to add colour to their 'illuminated' letters! We even tried using feathers as quills to add detail YAC The Harley Foundation #ArchaeologyWHGS #archaeology #medieval
#WHGS_YAC have been working hard to create our very first display board in school! It includes artefact-based objects we've made (with object labels and info cards), visitor spotlights and places to visit around Manchester! John Piprani Dr Nicky Nielsen Nick Overton YAC
#WHGS_YAC thought like archaeologists yesterday! We learned about how organic/inorganic materials rot (or not) thanks to Historic England and had a go at archaeological interpretation using reconstructions of sites like #suttonhoo and the Portesham grave...1/2

#WHGS_YAC had a special visitor recently! Nick Overton taught us about No Name Hill, a wetland Mesolithic site in Yorkshire, and what was found on the dig. We got to touch 11,000 yr old artefacts...1/2

#WHGS_YAC had such a great time learning about the #Mesolithic with Nick Overton! Loved hearing their hypotheses of what the engravings on the pendant could be (pathways, a map, an event) #ArchaeologyWHGS
Amazing stuff from WHGS Primary #WHGS_YAC young archaeologists club recreating a roman mosaic that was recently featured on #diggingforbritain . Keep an eye out for updates, it's going to be amazing when it's done!
It looks like our first ever After School club have been super creative, designing their own #prehistoric pendants based on the one found at Star Carr in #NorthYorkshire ๐คฉ
