This week's wonderful Welsh wetland word (or technically words!) is Dŵr Croyw.
Dŵr = water, croyw = fresh. 💦
Wetlands dŵr croyw are precious and under threat. They make up a very small proportion of the UK's land, but are a key habitat for 10% of species.

This week's Welsh wetland word is Addasiad.
Addas = suitable, Addasiad = adapt/change.
Our wetland species are very special, with each one having gone through an addasiad to be able to live in a wetland. Addasiadau include webbed feet, gills, and unique beaks.

Wetland Word of the Week ✨
FLOBBY is a Scots word used of clouds meaning they are large and indicating rain. We get a lot of that down here at Caerlaverock, being in South West Scotland but it definitely keeps our wetland wet!

Introducing… Wetland Word of the Week! 🌊
Up first, ZOSTERA. At WWT Castle Espie, we conserve zostera (or eelgrass). Thousands of Light-bellied Brent geese migrate to Strangford Lough to feed on it in the autumn and winter.

We've chosen Dŵr Hallt for this week's Welsh wetland word(s).
Dŵr = water, Hallt = salty.
Wetlands can be freshwater, Dŵr Hallt, or a mixture of both. When the sea and a river meet at the shoreline they create estuaries. Just like the Loughor Estuary.

This week's Welsh wetland word is Pureiddio/Pureiddiad.
Wetlands pureiddio or purify water and reduce pollution. They filter sediment and nutrient run-off as water flows through - removing harmful substances and making water safer for us humans.

Our social media manager when we asked them to write an original poem for #WorldPoetryDay today:
We’re hoping you can do better. Use words to focus on the amazing wetlands at our centre and drop your #WWTLondon rhymes in the comments.

Ahead of #WorldBookDay tomorrow, #WWTLondon ’s book fairies have hidden some nature-themed books around our centre for visitors to find and take home with them.

Wetland Word of the Week 💙
DABCHICK is another name for little grebe. It's name comes from the word 'dap' which means to dip lightly or suddenly under water. Do you have a favourite dabchick fact?

Wetland Word of the Week 🌧️
PETRICHOR is the word for that pleasant scent when it finally rains after a long dry spell. I wonder if anyone has worked out how to bottle it?
