Our 2023 #BugsMatter survey results are out today, and the news is alarming. The data indicates a 78% fall in the abundance of flying insects in the UK since 2004. π§΅
I checked the local Andrena clarkella nest site today and spotted two males. Somewhat lethargic, the weather being a little on the cool side and the sun having gone in. They were happy to climb on to make use of the warmth of my hand. #solitarybees #bugsmatter

I just downloaded this App. I'll be using it through the Summer. My own ( very unscientific ) observations tell me that there are very few bugs compared to 20 years ago. This App will help to quantify things.

1/2 Found this poor butterfly under a rail bridge, likely knocked out of the air by traffic. The number of bugs have definitely crashed more in the south east and London compared to other areas as shown in the #BugsMatter work by Kent Wildlife Trust so you don't see the traffic
