An Early Medieval silver Carolingian denier of Charlemagne (768-814) or his grandson Charles II, the Bald (840-877). Monogram/METVLLO type, mint: Melle, France. I am recording a growing number of these, and helps add to our knowledge of the period.

For tomorrow's Finds Friday, I aimed to write a summary and analysis of the early medieval finds on the island. However, it is 2000 words and counting. While it still needs some editing, I intend to release it, potentially as a concise article in the near future!

A challenging day on our site. Torrential rain & ephemeral features in sand making life tricky. Sterling work by our volunteers was rewarded in the skies.

A beautiful penannular ring brooch was recorded in the fill of a penannular enclosure ditch by one of our fieldwork teams this week. Looking forward to seeing what decoration is revealed by the conservator during cleaning. @iacarchaeology
