Newspapers can provide some of the best ways to learn about the history of your house. First, I like to start searching for the street rather than the exact address. It helps to give me a broader sense of the history of that location. #househistoryhour
👀What can you find in a rate book? Name of the occupier, name of the owner, description of the property (house, shop, warehouse, etc), situation of the property, rate to be paid (poor rate, water rate), date and amount. #househistoryhour
If you want to explore more years, you can also browse through all the years by searching the Greater Manchester Rate Books Browse. You can search by year and location to narrow your results to the book you need. tinyurl.com/4m7kwznd #househistoryhour
