So, under the floorboards while renovating their house a friend found an unusual silver plate 19th combination flask/sandwich box. You’ve gotta love those inventive Victorians! Now I’m way down a rabbit hole researching the names in the inscription.

It took reviewing 24 maps and 35 years of tax assessment rolls, but I finally found the location where my gg.grandparents built their house in Victoria.

This nail had been sticking out of a floorboard upstairs for 30+ years. The number of times we've caught our feet on it is unreal.

It was removed three years ago, my mam has framed it 🖼️🔨

Delighted to announce that I'll be doing 3 short presentations as part of 'All About That Place' later this month - on my Kin Edar Study ; sources for Northern Ireland; and what the Irish Census can tell us about buildings.

This aptly named Water Tower in a village near Lincoln was converted in 1996 and provides a lavish home. Built in 1903 the tank when full contained 37k gallons of water filled from an artesian borehole in a neighbouring field. . .

Just uploaded the 4th in my Meeting House Lane mini-project. Here's Rose Cottage, one of just 2 historic properties left on the lane, currently touch & go to make its 200th birthday in 2028

Nearly finished with a that was once the home of the Sisters of Mercy. Found a wonderful land division map in an early 19th c. probate record with a codicil that notes a brick house on the land that the devisee was living in at the time he received the property.

I've seen some awful trascriptions in my time but this one for the 1881 census wins the prize!! 😆😵🙈 You'll be pleased to hear the person was a servant in an Inn or assistant to a 'Coffee and Dining Housekeeper'!! 🤦‍♀️

Then & now...just about recognisable! High St, Castle Donington, home of Mary Ann Minton, my 3x great's sister (on right of 1st pic). Her brother Thomas was the family historian, to whom Mary wrote (as requested) with children's birth dates
