Grasshoppers .๐Ÿฆ—
*Much of the land is too steep to even contemplate mowing so these banks remain uncut. Late flowering plants grow in profusion, devils bit scabious, betony, harebells. Birdsfoot trefoil, hawkbit, great burnet & meadowsweet*

Since the 1930s weโ€™ve lost 97% of our haymeadows so when you come across one that is full of wildlife, such as common blue and small copper butterflies, and pyramidal orchids, itโ€™s a real natural wonder

Magical few days. Thunderstorms. Haymeadows, woodland walks and red vibrant mosses. Love life with so much beauty where ever you turn.

Left it a bit late for good photos, but lots of sleeping butterflies in the (few) remaining uncut haymeadows: a pair of Weaver's Fritillaries (Clossiana dia) & the globally rare False Ringlet (Coenonympha oedippus), one with a fair bit of battle damage showing the dark upperwing.

When rain is predicted, grass is gathered into these large piles to reduce the surface area exposed to water. Then when it's dry and sunny these piles will be spread out again to dry. meadows

More views from Oxford Meadows & - ancient lot floodplain haymeadows. Two colour varients of early marsh orchid, pepper saxifrage and our special early devil's- bit scabious, with what I think is a bit faded tree bumble bee feeding - or what? do correct me if wrong..

Our species rich hay meadows are a haven for insects & ground nesting birds, particularly curlews & lapwings. We donโ€™t cut our wildflower meadows until the flowers have reseeded & the chicks have fledged.

Saw lots of these in the hay meadow, in this one could see hundreds of tiny spiderlings. Could see them move when I gentle moved the grass. Isnโ€™t nature wonderful!
