#OTD 25 May 1982 was a tough day with the loss of #MVAtlanticConveyor and #HMSCoventry . Despite the arrival of the 8 ships from the #HMSBristol group and shooting down 3 Argentine aircraft, the tempo of operations changed: “We’ll have to bloody well walk!” #Falklands40
25 May 1982 - HMS Coventry is sunk during operations in the Falklands war. It is struck by 3 bombs dropped by Argentine Douglas A-4 Skyhawks. 19 of the ships crew were killed with a further 30 more injured. #OTD #History #LestWeForget #HMSCoventry #Falklands40
Five months after #HMSCoventry sank Royal Naval dives visited the wreck to remove confidential material and secure any remaining weapons. The wreck laying on her port side was still flying her battle ensign which was recovered along with the Cross of Nails.
On this day we remember all those men and women who gave their lives on #HMSCoventry in defence of our country and the values we hold during the #FalklandsWar of 1982 their sacrifice will never be forgetten. #WeWillRememberThem #LestWeForget

Last couple of hours as a #BBC man and wearing slightly less #PPE than when I was on #hmscoventry for her last mission. It's goodbye from me after 36 years leaving a great team BBC News Midlands and thanks to everyone who's helped and supported me over the years.
