New preprint! How do cells rewire chromosome segregation during meiosis? We identify a germline-specific mRNA splice isoform for a critical kinetochore protein. This alternative protein transforms its regulatory control, contributing to proper fertility.

ele the Y chromosome is quite underdeveloped compared to other chromosomes.

It...
- does not have an entropy rate over 1
- cannot recombine during meiosis
- is more susceptible to becoming ncDNA
- has lost 96.8% of its original genes over the course of 300m years

Robertsonian result from the fusion of two acrocentric or telocentric chromosomes. Jennifer Gerton suggests fusion events are driven by sequence homology (e.g., repetitive ); recombination initiation during ; and physical proximity of fused sequences

Gracie Billings What you are describing are vehicles to achieve meiosis/fertilzation. Meiosis/fertilization is the end state and the actual moment that reproduction occurs. Fertilization is the moment before meiosis.

What does this have to do with the thesis?

Soursass Dr Tacey “wish I was smarter" O’Neil 🏳️‍⚧️ Katy Montgomerie 🦗 Females produce all their gametes in a burst, during embryohood, but the final maturation, i.e. the second division of meiosis, does not occur until the egg is about to be shed.
