A scene from the “Basil Basileus”series with a lot of Banners and the Imperial Divellion, the emperor’s flag. The scene doesn’t involve emperor Basil II though, but his predecessor Ioannes Tsimiskes. I got inspired by the picture below it. It’s from the movie kingdom of heaven.

Thessaloniki's busy Tsimiski Street by night. Constructed after the Great Fire of 1917 the street is named after the Byzantine Emperor Ioannis Tsimiskes. The avenue really took off as a shopping street in the 1930s when bookstores & patisseries opened in the area. ↓

During his captivity in Constantinople, Anemas converted into Christianity and learned Greek.

Thus, he became a 'true Roman'.

Ioannis Tsimiskes, the murderer of and successor to Nichephoros, offered him the prestigious position of Prōtospatharios - or imperial bodyguard.

Nrken19 Aqua from Tocharia He belonged to Kourkuas family of Armenian-Byzantine nobility. Tsimiskes is a nickname. One of the versions is that it originates from word 'chmushkik' - a red boot in Armenian. So an Armenian-Byzantine Caligula of sorts.

Ioannis Tsimiskes was known for his struggles against Bulgarians. The Greek government chose that name due to the high Greco-Bulgarian tensions at the time in regards to who would win the then Ottoman city of Thessaloniki after the Balkan Wars. ↓
