It's our birthday! 🎉

143 years ago, the Museum opened its doors to the public for the very first time. This photo was taken the same year the Museum opened in 1881!

Thursday Postcard Day. This is a postcard of Lord Nelson's funeral barge. The house - Merton Place - he shared with Lady Hamilton had a moat feed by water from the Wandle. He also fished the river, watched cricket at Mitcham Cricket Green and a pew at St Mary's, Merton Park.

The notes will go into circulation on 5th June. This is the first time The Bank of England has changed the image of The Monarch on a banknote (Queen Elizabeth II became the first Monarch to appear on a Bank of England note in 1960).

Metropolitan Police Museum & Crime Museum Historic England Great to see you've posted the former Police Station by Gilbert Mackenzie Trench (who also designed the 'tardis'). You were so helpful as tooting history researched to support it's Grade II listing (via email when you were mid move). Thanks again.
