Colin Winterbottom once pored over spreadsheets in a drab D.C. office. Decades later, he’s turned the windowless room into an exhibit of his best photography 📸 My latest:

Thanks to everyone who read my piece about , and found it helpful. I wanted to share a few thoughts about what's harmful about the false 'wokeness' narrative about the place. slate.com/business/2024/… via @slate

Once a month, via a chartered bus, DC Chinatown's remaining Chinese residents leave the city for the suburbs to grocery shop.

Why? There's no familiar, affordable food in their neighborhood.

I had a great time exploring DC’s Oxon Run from end to end. It was about 3.8 miles, but for 2 miles no trails (thanks for nothing NPS!) Only 671 more parks to visit in my ULTIMATE DC PARKS QUEST with City Cast DC

We asked, and y'all had some great ideas! Now, weigh in on the shortlist of potential names for this new worker-led newsroom serving DC. forms.gle/3HKxFPFv67CYZp…

After the shutdown of DCist and layoffs, WAMU 88.5 no longer has a reporter on criminal justice, housing, immigrant communities, and environment.

WAMU also never rehired education, D.C. and Maryland politics reporters.

WAMU holds us back in providing accountability journalism.

“The most worrisome thing about the DCist shutdown, however, is the possibility of D.C. becoming a news desert.”

D.C. is home to many national news organizations but most don’t focus coverage on the city itself, writes Alana Parker for The Eagle:

I took advantage of today’s storm to get completely drenched biking around to visit parks in Ward 8. Visited 2 triangle parks, 2 rec centers, 1 parking lot that was supposed to be a park, 1 vacant lot, and 2 boundary stones. Only 676 DC parks left to visit! City Cast DC

We've been so proud to have Eric Lee sharing a bit of his vision with us at St. Louis Public Radio.

While we'll miss him greatly, the The New York Times is picking up an incredibly empathetic and tenacious storyteller!

How can you sum up nearly two decades of DCist? It’s impossible.

But I tried and learned so much while interviewing former staffers about DCist’s humble beginnings and many ups & downs over the years.

.DCist and all of its reporters still matter.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said on The Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi that she read jenny gathright's coverage on the crime bill, which is up for a final vote tomorrow, to prepare for the show: 'Having fair, balanced reporting about critical issues is helpful to us.'

I was one of the journalists laid of at WAMU 88.5 today. I've had a great time covering local environmental issues in D.C. for the past 7ish years, plus 5 more years producing and reporting audio at the station.

There are a lot of stories I'm proud of but my crowning achievement is to have written the last story ever to be published on DCist.com. Fittingly, it's about pandas.

Forests are facing an onslaught of threats, including diseases and climate change. But the biggest problem is that forests are failing to regenerate: there are not enough baby trees.

Many environmental problems seem too diffuse and global to tackle as an individual. But when it comes to saving local forests, you can have a noticeable impact with a few hours of work. Here are 5 things you can do: bit.ly/3v9lT8x
