Sam Freedman Jessica Markwell Which is exactly what CCs did. CCs had large data sets by postcode and street level which were used to target support, we ran targeted evidence-based programs & universality of access meant that there was safety net for all e.g.DV happens in all communities. Huge Value for £

At their peak there were around 3000 sure start centres - a one stop shop for under 5s and parents - more than a thousand were closed in post 2020 austerity - others folded into other services. Now we have long term Institute for Fiscal Studies research that they paid for themselves

Ruth Swailes They destroyed everything set up by Labour. I managed the Playing for Success programme which demonstrated positive benefits in raising aspirations and motivation for children and young people. No interest in the evaluation it was all about Gove’s ideology. A shameful waste!

🧵I do worry when I read some curriculum documents what sense our youngest children will actually make of them. Our children in ks1 can start at just 60 months old.
60 months.
Some of the content I see is so complex & requires deep, connected understanding of challenging concepts

& as such needs to recognise the multi novice status of the ks1 learner. 60 months. That’s how long some of our ks1 children have actually been on this planet. We need to be as respectful of this as we are to the academic disciplines. Tricky content does not trump child development

David Wright I agree with you David but it would be easier if she herself had let her opinions retire with her! Clearly her legacy is still informing Ofsted but we have to engage with those still doing the job for any hope of change.

75 is quite a lot less than 1416, which is how many Sure Start centres have closed since the Conservatives came to power in 2010.
