On this day in 1944, Dr. Alfred Blalock, Dr. Helen Taussig, and surgical technician Vivien Thomas performed the first-ever surgery to treat the #CHD , Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The surgery became known as the BTT shunt, honoring the medical staff.

Thanks #AHA2023 for a chance to share our findings on economic burden of pregnancy on CHD patients. CHD pregnancies cost ~$7500 more in total and ~$500 more in out of pocket costs than nonCHD. Data important for CHD patients, clinicians and policymakers in financial planning.
