A recently arrived Common Swift Apus apus, one of many seen flying into a fierce, cold wind at Staines Reservoir yesterday. It must have come as a bit of a shock! Cropped, and auto-adjusted for shadows & highlights.

Shortened walk today but I was excited to see a Whinchat in the wet field above the Mere, where I often see Stonechats. I have never seen a Whinchat in this area before. I didn't tick the hobby as there was some uncertainty but the Swift & Whinchat mean 103 for the yr in Marbury.

Another woodland trapping session with my sister last night near Plymouth. My 3 traps had 131 of 34 with 12 NFYs. Good numbers of Brindled Beauty (28) & Great Prominent (24) among the species and my first trap visit by Adela reaumurella (3). Trap probably placed near a roost

There are four species of robberfly recorded in Ireland. These include: Dune Robberfly (philonicus albiceps), Irish Robberfly (Machimus cowini), Common Awl Robberfly (Neoitamus cyanurus) and Dioctria baumhaueri was recorded in 2015.
