We’re excited to announce our new animation showcasing what an effective multi-agency response to stalking looks like.

A victim-centred approach is not just possible, it's crucial.

Rhianon’s story illustrates the risks to the victim when there is no coordinated response to stalking.

this to ensure that what happened to Rhianon Bragg (née Meirion-Jones) doesn’t happen to anyone else.

In 2024, a huge number of children are unwell, physically and mentally.
They're hurting, struggling, scared, confused...
waiting for help and wanting to be better.

Let's not make this any harder than it already is for these vulnerable youngsters and their families.

End.

I was a headteacher for many years. I know the responsibility, the challenges & pressure.

Managing attendance has always been about people, situations and relationships. It's a human matter.

It's increasingly about numbers.
We're losing compassion - our sense of humanity.

When a child is ill, and unable to attend school regularly due to illness, what actually is the purpose of serving a penalty notice or prosecution?

Who does this help?

What does the punishment achieve?

Does it make the child well?

As a consequence of the aforementioned policies and approaches, we have an increasing number of parents (many thousands) being threatened and punished by LAs for their children's absences, when they are unwell and desperate for help.

There are also settings which, as policy, won't authorise a child's ill health related absence (whatever the cause) if that child's attendance is already below a certain percentage (even 95%). It doesn't matter what evidence is presented, the absence will be unauthorised.

When this happens - when the provided evidence is rejected, the school is effectively disputing both the seriousness of the child's condition and the integrity of the medical professional's opinion. It's a disturbing precedent.

Most concerning of all, it's not uncommon for schools to refuse to accept the medical evidence provided by GPs and other medical professionals. In these instances, schools and LAs are essentially over-riding or ignoring medical expertise.
