If someone asked me 30 years ago where to see this species in my county I would have said far north east corner of vc32

Two examples of the subtle hybrid between Bee and Late Spider Orchids from Kent.
With Late Spider being so variable, these can be tricky to pick out, but note the propellor-shaped petals as the first clue to Bee parentage.

It looks like a good year for this species in the UK despite weeks of hot dry weather baking the ground from which they grow.

The wonderful sight of thousands of Greater Butterfly Orchids in Gloucestershire yesterday. As an added bonus, my evening visit meant the plants were turning up the smell emissions ready for the moths. Intoxicating 😋
