'To think critically or be creative in any domain you need to draw on connected webs of knowledge built up over the course of the curriculum...starting in primary and building on that in secondary rather than repeating it' Lucy Crehan arguing for a shift in Curriculum for Wales.

I'm going to be running this session on historical scholarship again this year for HodderHistory
Loved running it last year.
Please do join me for the following highlights...👇👇👇(1/6)
So much to enjoy in this terrific interview with David Thomas about maths and oracy. I was struck by both similarities & deep contrasts between maths & history. Each needs reasoning as process and product, but oh the contrast in how shared meaning is made! #OracyCommission

Good to meet with History Leads from The Mead Educational Trust - Miss Henson, Humanities @ Kibworth Mead Academy, Abi Hudson & Miss M this afternoon to share “What’s the Wisdom On… Causation” from Historical Assoc, chaired by Christine Counsell. Fortunate to have opportunities to engage in such worthwhile discussion.
Blocked time out today for revisiting lots of the stuff I’ve read over the last few months.
Struck once again by two things.
1) That this is my job!
2) That we as a history community are so lucky to have such a wealth of shared resources and expertise 👏🏻
Historical Assoc
History peop and all SLT in charge of assessment or line-managing history, this Historical Assoc CPD is unmissable. Jonathan Grande leads secondary history in Ark Schools & Ventures and works with a remarkable team of hist teachers. For strong egs of assessment of knowledge-rich, sign up for this.
Fab from Josh Vallance. Generic pedagogy weighs so heavily on a subject that it can't breathe. This is double damage: (i) it kills the subject; (ii) the backlash: an ineluctable drift back to dry, skill-based assessment for, as I argue in bit.ly/3OWtwpE, the FOURTH time
This will be immense. Assessment in history is tricky and fascinating, and Jonathan Grande does such thoughtful and original work on this. He’s hands down the leading expert on assessment in history in my view. Don’t miss this!
