'Disability Works' will be published three months from today! It is currently available for pre-order for Amazon. Pre-orders play a key role in a book's success, so I hope you'll consider ordering a copy and having your institution do the same. Thank you! shorturl.at/ajZ08

SLT peeps this seems like a good opportunity for those working on fluency & to approach our practices through a critical disability lens. Seems like Josua St. Pierre (love their work) and colleagues are leading this.

Any schools in the United States run by people with autism/majority of teachers & staff are on the spectrum? My son needs to grow and learn in an environment where he isn't othered and pathologized. Any and all info pls!

Because a number of scholars & equity minded educators understand the difference between a socially constructed medicalised term invented for SLTs vs exposing wider power structures that are the very reason for such ideological construction.

Early signed language exposure does not negatively impact spoken language processing in deaf CI users but may instead potentially offset negative effects of language deprivation without any signed language exposure experience prior to implantation. direct.mit.edu/nol/article/do…

I just remembered last Saturday was my 18th anniversary on T. I’m an adult now! I’ll celebrate by getting a tattoo in honor of Jon Henner. Also, zero regrets. Transition was the best decision for me.

What a fantastic clip. Sheen demonstrates the profound generosity of one’s silence.

As a disabled person (soft spoken, deaf w/ a speech impediment) a barrier I can face is being heard. Any hesitation/stumble can be seen as an invitation by some to claim that space for themselves

I am saddened to say I recognize this in a number of male colleagues I’ve worked with over the years. The women I’ve worked with certainly suffered for this sort of behavior- their scholarship, teaching, self care. This part angers me.

When assistive technologies are expanded to police, surveil, maim, & kill …it is worth considering the morality of bringing disabled people into a war apparatus known to produce and perpetuate disability—& death. Another brilliant piece from Liz Jackson
