I think it’d be good for more people to know that the exact same private equity executives responsible for destroying hundreds of jobs at Vice — Fortress Investment Group — are also responsible for destroying thousands of jobs at Gannett newspapers.

I honestly have a lot of unhappy memories of VICE but I will say without hesitation the journalists and creators there were some of the smartest, most talented and creative people in the business, and they often did it in terrible conditions for shit pay.

thinking back to the first staff party I went to at VICE. Shane Smith personally handed out envelopes stuffed with $1,500 cash and a bunch of people got TVs. so wild to be witnessing its swan song now.

In a memo to staff, Vice CEO Bruce Dixon announces hundreds of layoffs and that the company will no longer publish on Vice dot com. He also says VMG is in advanced talks to sell Refinery29.

Thinking of all the amazing folks still working at VICE, I'm sorry you're going through yet more turmoil. As for the company itself, I have nothing good to say about working there.
