Big milestone: We launched “Is This Democracy” exactly one year ago!

I don’t have a “favorite” episode per se - but our top 3 most downloaded shows provide a good idea of what we’ve been trying to do with Is This Democracy.

A short thread, purely by the numbers: 1/

“We can encourage our leaders to make it very, very clear to their supporters and people who follow them that violent attitudes do not have a place in a healthy democracy and are not something we should be accepting on the whole.”

Why am I going on about this announcement in Denver today?

Because it's something any newsroom can do tomorrow, from NBC News to The Current in Lafayette, Louisiana:

Demote the horse race, and use the savings to put voters and communities at the center of your coverage. 6/

There is so much confusion about right now. Let me try to lay out where things stand. This is mostly for APSA members still trying to decide what to do. I’ll start with yesterday’s letter from UNITE HERE Local 11

If you're no longer going to , or want a more accessible and inclusive venue for feedback, submit your proposal for the GSIPE workshop! It's 100% graduate student organized, online, and a great way to meet others.

Seems that UNITE HERE Local 11 has come to an agreement with Westin Bonaventure and there are still rooms available

(*today is last chance to cancel at other hotels without penalty)

Just a reminder that today, July 30, is the LAST DAY to cancel a hotel room you reserved through the APSA website without incurring a penalty fee. After today, it's $50.

Three things can all be true:
1. Planning a conference is a hellish, thankless job
2. APSA is indeed in a no-win situation, especially this close to the conference
3. I won’t cross a picket line, especially not on *Labor Day weekend* and I won’t ask others to do so.
