After a few hits with a hammer (and a little bit of glue afterwards) it's always so satisfying to reveal a find with its counterpart. A beautiful looking Microderoceras with some impressive looking tubercles along its ribs!

This beautiful calcite Microderoceras birchi ammonite was revealed by our Guide, Dr. Paul Davis, from a nodule split on yesterday's Fossil Walk, what a beauty! Millie was thrilled to take the fossil home, a Jurassic treasure from her visit to Lyme Regis!

was always seen with her little dog and had several during her life. She sketched one in her notes in the 1820s. Its death in a rockfall in 1833 was local news in Dorset. Its replacement, which she called 'Tray', appears in her famous portrait of 1842.

This is my first time ever painting or even drawing an icthyosaur, I think. It’s a Temnodontosaurus. I feel like everyone depicts icthyosaurs as graceful and dolphin-like. Nah man they still giant killer sea reptiles. Better luck next time mr plesiosaur.

The long journey.
(2018)

The idea here is how new species (The mammal on the tree trunk) occupy new habitats on new islands, for example. So-called island hopping.

The typical, elongated upper jaw of the incredible Excalibosaurus made this photo difficult to frame, but WHAT a beaut 😍

In front, is a cast of Mary and Joseph Anning’s famous specimen (original on display Natural History Museum)

1829 saw the first scientific paper 'On the Discovery of Coprolites, or Fossil Faeces at Lyme Regis' published by W. Buckland. He was so fascinated with the subject, his friend, Henry De la Beche humorously illustrated him in a cave composed of coprolites and defecating animals.

When fossil hunting, Mary Anning kept finding curious 'bezoar stones' filled with churned up bones and fish scales. It was postulated the stones might have been the faeces of ancient animals, aka coprolites💩.The fossil poo then paved the way for agricultural revolution. 🧵
