May be its the birder in me but I always find it satisfying to see a vagrant when birding abroad. Rufous-backed Robin was always an outside chance whilst in SE Arizona, & this morning nr the famous village of Patagonia, my hopes came true. All thrushes are good thrushes 😀

As National Parks turn 75, a new report highlights only 6% of their land is recorded as being in good health for nature - with the Yorkshire Dales having less tree cover than York and waterways across these special places heavily polluted by sewage released from storm overflows.

But nice to arrive in SE Arizona. Saguaro NP our introduction to the area late afternoon. Quite a contrast. ☀️😁

Sad to leave New Mexico, it did give us quite a send off with a climb over a 7000ft pass this morning.... 4wd would have eased the nerves. 🫣

Reached sw New Mexico yesterday, it's still cold overnight. Minus 5 at our Gila Hot springs campground 🥶 The morning walk more than compensated when we found this splendid Northern Pygmy Owl warming itself in the sunshine. A few more migrants starting to appear now too. 😁

This is my 13th trip to the 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇦. More than enough to single out a bogey bird. Finally in the last three days one of my most desired species of the trip has given its self up in northern New Mexico. Distant or brief at first but then finally this afternoon 😁 #EveningGrosbeak

Fabulous morning above 10,000ft outside Albuquerque. I feared that the wintering Rosy-Finches had left for the winter following no reports in the last 6 days. Opened the car door to see a flock of 40 odd around the feeding table. All 3 North American species present. Wow.

We have just crossed the border from Texas into a new state for us, New Mexico. The land of enchantment. Carlsbad Caverns NP is a wonder the world & Roswell 👽a wonder of the human imagination & conspiracy. As for the birds, I'll keep them brown - Canyon Towhee & Hermit Thrush👍

Continuing the run of excellent LBJ's, we are talking birds here so as not to confuse with Texas's more famous LBJ, finding Sprague's Pipit was a real bonus today. Was getting a bit late and thought that one might avoid me. #notso #tictastic
