Today Sentencing Council announced a new mitigating factor 'Pregnancy, childbirth and post-natal care'. Long overdue but I'm glad it's now recognised that prison is dangerous for pregnant women & babies, & mother/baby separation is harmful. So many people have worked for this 👏💪

Justice Secretary Angela Constance has announced an independent review of sentencing and penal policy.
