There were 13 wader species seen across the reserve, with a flock of 8 Greenshank, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit and 1 Ringed Plover being the highlights. Still a good number of Mediterranean Gulls are being seen on the Main Scrape, where 2 Ruff showed most of the day.

Burton Mere Wetlands is well known for its wide array of birds, but if you're lucky there's a chance of seeing the odd one or two furry friends when you visit, like enigmatic or perhaps a stealthy .

13 Whimbrel showing well on the Main Scrape for most of the morning was the highlight of the day. Difficult birds to see well locally, so it was great to be able to catch up with these waders. A Red Kite was also see from Burton Point, the 2nd in 3 days.

A Red Kite spent a few minutes circling over the Visitor Centre this afternoon, which was great to see. The female Scaup was again on Bridge Pool and Lesser Whitethroat was by the barn.

Please don’t mow or spray the dandelions. They are a lifeline for pollinators including bees, butterflies, hoverflies. They support over 50 insect species. Our little film shows the life in a small patch 🐝

It's finally dried out enough to patch up the potholes.

To give the wardens a little extra time the reserve will open slightly later this Friday (19) @ 9:30am.

For safety and to protect the surface please keep to 10mph. Thank you.

My walk started off quiet for birds but then within the space of a minute I had 2 new birds for the year with a Whitethroat and a Yellow Wagtail. The Yellow Wagtail was particularly exciting as I don't always see one yearly and they are so stunning too!
