1500 new patients per year seen in consultation, 3500 follow up visit, 450 new sarcoma/GIST/desmoid patients managed each year (>1/10 of the incidence patients in Italy), a few millions € of grants for research, over 10 clinical studies open to recruitment or follow up. 3/4

CR Chandrasekar Roberto Pestana, MD Anant Desai Dario Callegaro Pawel Sobczuk sylvie bonvalot It’s important to not use a ‘sarcoma mdt’ as a smokescreen. Fabio Tirotta showed that not all MDTs are the same and for patients requiring complex surgery, care in a high volume centre is critical for optimal perioperarive and long term cancer specific outcomes.

2) Published in BJS shows that inter-centre agreement across RPS MDTs in GB was low. Around 60% of pts in the study could either have been deemed resectable or unresectable depending on the centre they had attended.

1) Published in (EORTC ) shows that high-volume specialist centres (>24 cases yr) are an independent predictor of survival. 5-yr OS = 42% in non-specialist centres vs 51.7% in low-volume specialist centres and 62.8% in high-volume specialist centres
