Back on 8th Apr I had an unusual Pammene to FUN lure in the Mundford garden, with another 2 to STR on 11th. Turns out these are Norfolk's 2nd and 3rd records of Pammene agnotana! Amazing what can turn up in your garden. Just pottering about looking for bees and hoverflies, when a small moth fluttering about in our hedge caught my eye. Potted it and took a photo. Mompha langiella (White-spot Mompha) - just the 29th record for Norfolk!! smatter

We came across another new colony of hungry Scarlet Tiger caterpillars last week, mostly nibbling at comfrey leaves but also a few seen on Green Alkanet. Easily in excess of 80 caterpillars in a quick look, suspect there's many, many 10's more in situ.

Absolute scenes at CMO HQ at the weekend when Lynnette discovered Scarlet Tiger caterpillars on the garden comfrey ~ probably the 1st example of the species in 'cat' form in Norfolk. In the sun today, a dozen munched away in the early spring warmth.

Several Orange Underwings flying round tops of Birch trees at Dersingham Bog yesterday. Privileged to see one up close on a tree trunk (found by the eagle-eyed Stewart Wright). As featured in U is for Underwings in Arthropedia.

Photo request/challenge! Coming in as the 89th most recorded micro in Norfolk is Luffia lapidella (Ramshorn Bagworm), however nobody has managed a photo of the adult moth (a parthenogenetic wingless female)... good luck ;)

I spot-checked a Polypody fern on my way home yesterday, hoping to find the rust fungus Milesina dieteliana. It was rust free, but did have a couple of caterpillars of the Common Fern Moth, Psychoides filicivora (norfolkmoths.co.uk/micros.php?bf=โ€ฆ).

Request: If you record an out of normal flight period moth, please add a comment to the record to say so (and a photo if possible). It saves me loads of time chasing up. Cheers ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Norfolk Moths (Jim Wheeler CMR) linden hawthorne This was an interesting one. First one we saw I thought was going to be an aberration, but every one of the (many) foresters on that site were this colour. We retained one and it had turned green in the pot after a few hours. Didnโ€™t know what was happening until Jim explained.

A blast from the past I had forgotten about! Early website, mid 2000s when the internet wasnโ€™t everywhere in Norfolk and PCs had CD drives!
