Big deal! This bill would require large corporations to pay into social security and Medicare for their workers (both independent contractors and employees) and is a big step towards stopping corporations from shirking their responsibilities to their workers.

This is a HUGE win. Forced arbitration is a root cause of so much worker exploitation-- misclassification, algorithmic management etc--because workers have no viable way to challenge these structural issues.

Sorry man, forced arbitration and misclassification made this your problem. Cities should be especially insistent on setting industry-specific minimum wages where employers cheat the system to avoid unions and enforcement of generally applicable wage laws.

In an op-ed for the Minnesota Reformer, Terri Gerstein & Laura Padin team up to urge lawmakers to see Uber & @Lyft's threats to leave the state as a 'fearmongering rejection of the notion that democratically enacted laws should apply to them.' minnesotareformer.com/2024/04/08/ube…

.Uber Lyft say they'll leave Minneapolis bc of its new driver min wage, but there's a bigger picture: These companies go bananas when gov't anywhere (Austria, Phoenix, Quebec) passes laws to constrain them. Laura Padin & I wrote about it Minnesota Reformer 1/ minnesotareformer.com/2024/04/08/ube…

Uber’s model depends on the myth of independence and the suggestion that your time and money is your own. But drivers’ time and money serve Uber’s profits—this is subminimum wage work.
