Black-tailed godwits are returning to breed WWT Welney and other wetland sites around the Fens. If you spot birds with leg rings, look out for individuals with a lime coloured E as one of the rings. These were headstarted by Project Godwit and all sightings gratefully received.

This week we announced the sad passing of colleague and friend, Mark Smart from the RSPB England Team. Mark was hugely respected & liked in the conservation community, a giant of wetland creation. Our latest blog is a tribute. He will be deeply missed shorturl.at/qNU13

We'd like to draw attention to the amazing Project Godwit, established to help one of our most iconic shore birds. Not confined only to the field, they also have a great website with headstarted chicks, educational materials& great videos. Check it out!

Project Godwit & @WWTWorldwide successfully raised 206 Black-tailed Godwit chicks over 7 years, releasing them to the wild. Raised temporarily in captivity then released to give better chance of survival, many returned to breed when they reached maturity👉bit.ly/PGchicks

Project Godwit improved over 1,000 ha of wetland & installed pumps & scrapes - shallow seasonal pools of water. This provides homes for invertebrates, which chicks need to survive. Breeding pairs have now increased by 39% 😀 WWT
