This is a terrific informative article by Bibek Bhandari about Bhutan's political prisoners. (I happen to be quoted in it, but that's not why I am posting it). Ram Karki can't even locate all of them. No phone calls, no visits. Very tough sitch, as Human Rights Watch has documented also.

Really pleased with this article co-written with Ram Karki . And gets me fired up for my upcoming book on Bhutan’s homeland activists.

Bunches of you have checked in after the attack in Bondi Junction by a mentally unwell man. I am safe. My family is safe. But I'll say the thing: this is an absolute tragedy, but it would have been much, much worse if he'd had easy access to a gun. US, listen up:

A 'it's my first book and I am perhaps overexcited' question: how important is it to attend the Zoom marketing meeting where they tell you how the book will be promoted? It will be recorded, but I'll miss being 'there' to ask questions.

Is it tooting my own horn too much to recommend to you the artwork in this article about Myanmar diaspora art? Art is happening in Myanmar, and outside of it. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

I'm getting messages of frustration from friends in and from Myanmar, and in Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, who are watching the UNSC meeting on Myanmar. Words but no proposals for practical action, no mention of jet fuel or other sanctions or ICJ provisional measures.

When you are at and your The Fletcher School classmate Doug Kantor and your awesome former colleague from SSPS Ryan Griffiths both plan a dinner at the same time so you suggest dining together at the same restaurant and THEY WENT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL together.

Very proud to be in this issue of Current History and collaborating with Ram Karki , a person I very much admire for his commitment to making a difference for from Bhutan.

Proud and wowed by my former PhD student Dr Michelle Peterie . There is really no greater joy in teaching and supervising in academia than to see your former students take on such interesting and complex and meaningful research in the world.

The abhorrent responses to Emma Pike's video for New York Times Opinion prove that her voice, like the voices of everyone who works toward a nuclear-free world, are needed now more than ever. Keep going, Emma. It’s because of people like you that we will achieve a more peaceful future.

This is a very important read. You know that (in one part of the statement) when the US is compared favorably to Australia re: migration policy , something is very, very wrong.
