A surprise on our BeeWalk today: quite a few flowers of the hybrid goatsbeard from earlier in the year have sprung back up, though they're looking a bit ragged.

First of 2022 was full of sunshine and lots of joy 🐝💚

Found 28 buff tailed, 1 garden, 4 early and 6 tree bumblebees at today.

It won't be long until my beloved Shrill carders will emerge!

I’m leading a little Wild Bee Hunt on Abney Park Trust.
Here’s a video of a gorgeous Tawny Mining bee female looking for the entrance to her nest, right by the main path.

First field session went brilliantly yesterday at 🐝

Had lots of fun searching for bumblebees with fellow Bee Walkers and learned so much from Busy Bee.

Highlights were definitely finding the male long horned bee and Shrill carder queen 🌻

RT biophilliabotany: Watching a Queen having a quick clean up to then nuzzle down into moss whilst she’s prospecting along the woodlands edge always raises a smile on my (listen into the birdsong) Bumblebee Conservation Trust Woodland Trust🌳

Just squeezed in my first Bumblebee Conservation Trust BeeWalk Transect of the year, not ideal conditions but loads of Buff-Taileds out plus this freshly emerged Dark-edged Beefly. Plus I saw a Weasel, a new record to the North West Zone

The curse of the survey!... Did my first Beewalk of the year and didn't see a single bumblebee in the garden, despite having quite a few elsewhere, as well as these solitary bees. Then, when I got back, a queen Buff-tailed Bumblebee practically flew into my face! 😂
