Today’s #Archive30 is #WhyArchives because they connect us to those who came before us and show us we are a part of something bigger. We have so many fascinating stories to tell and are committed to keeping the history and stories of the school alive #HutchieHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #ArchiveMyths We always thought our Girls’ Dux board was just inspired by Charles Rennie Macintosh’s style of lettering but a bit of digging by one of our volunteers and she found out it was actually created by him in 1906! #HutchieHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #BusinessArchives Our favourite business records are our letter books which are full of the daily life of the school. On ‘onion paper’ they are a fascinating record giving us great insights into how Hutchesons’ was run in the 1890s #HutchieHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #HealthArchives After Covid struck we started to collect and now have a great wee collection of the thoughts of our staff and pupils at the time, documentation and photos, including this return to school banner keeping our pupils safe! #HutchieHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #ArchiveFashion and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to show off some hats! Both the hated girls’ school hats but also these fabulous French lace ones from a school trip! #HutchieHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #SomethingSmall like our peg dolls the archive club painted last year representing some of our notable female former pupils- Madge Easton Anderson, Moira Beatty, Evelyn McNicol, Dorothea Chalmers Smith and Winnie Wooldridge #HutchieHistory
It’s the first day of #Archive30 and it’s #YourArchive we are always telling pupils, past and current, “the archive is YOUR archive to use, learn and discover”. They support it by donating 300 items a year and we continue to work towards many great projects #HutchieHistory
S2 pupils are sitting their end of year exams this week, and kick it all off with their History exam, so good luck everyone! Hutchesons' Grammar #ACHIEVEwithHistory
Today’s #Archive30 is #SomethingBig We’ve just started a BIG project- collecting the stories of all our Dux winners starting from 1829 to 1950. If your relative was a Dux Hutchesons' Grammar then please get in touch. We’d love to know more about their lives after school #HutchieHistory
Our Advanced Higher pupils experienced some experimental archaeology today when they got to design and create medieval weapons. Out of cardboard.
Hutchesons' Grammar #creativity
Our seniors and S3’s may be on study leave but the commitment and creativity of our S1 and S2 pupils continues. As they are coming to the end of the Witches topic, pupils in S2 have been making presentations on various witch trials.
#FLOURISHwithHistory Hutchesons' Grammar
More creativity from our pupils this morning, as pupils in S4 create their own badges and posters in the style of those protesting the Vietnam War. This concludes their learning on public opinion towards Vietnam in American during the war.
Hutchesons' Grammar #FLOURISHwithHistory
Well done to all our pupils for their hard work and dedication throughout this term. Everyone should make sure they get some rest over the holiday, and while many pupils have revision to do rest assured there is no writing assignment from us!
Hutchesons' Grammar #endofterm
All the hard work by our Higher pupils in researching and honing their Assignment essays is paying off this morning as they do their formal write-up under exam conditions.
You got this!
Hutchesons' Grammar #ACHIEVEwithHistory
If you go down to the History Department beware of a … booby trap!
As part of their topic on the reasons why America lost the Vietnam War our S4 pupils have been recreating Viet Cong booby traps out of various craft materials!
Hutchesons' Grammar
A very happy half term to all our pupils, and well done for all the hard work over the last few weeks - especially to our seniors who have sat, and evaluated, their January prelims.
Make time to recharge those batteries everyone!

An unexpected The Hutchesons' Former Pupils' Club visitor today, tracing his uncle's Dux medal history. I was able to find the 1829 Silver Medal, awarded annually, to bring life to the award-board. Hutchie History HGS Archives
