He was a vocal advocate for the protection of the #Amazon rainforest & worked as a forest guardian to prevent #IllegalLogging in his community's territory.
Palmyra Atoll is located 1000 miles south of Hawaii. Only a handful amount of researchers live on #PalmyraAtoll since it's remote. This gives us a great chance to study a reef impacted by global stressors (climate change/OA) but with minimal local stressors.

Congrats to Sho Kodera, the newest MS from Scripps Institution of Oceanography ! He showed robust coral growth learned uniquely from studying the remote coral reefs of #PalmyraAtoll and the USFWS Pacific NOAA Fisheries Pacific monuments. Years of coral monitoring are invaluable! #100IC @TNCHawaii
