The last time Canadian grad students got a raise (~20 yrs ago), I was still learning how to go down the slide and hiding in the pile of leaves in my backyard. The next generation of Canadian scientists must be paid above the poverty line! #SupportOurScience
We can't sustain research in Canada when federal graduate student awards haven't increased since 2003! #SupportOurScience
So very proud of our community for coming together today both locally & nationally to demand better funding for grad students & postdocs!

If Canada wants to stay competitive in research, it needs to invest in its scientists.
Today we’re marching for liveable wages for grad students and postdocs because:
1) Students/postdocs are the backbone of academia
2) All work must be compensated fairly

Last time NSERC funded grad students had a raise, I was working in Norway, had lots of hair & no gray in my beard. All have changed except NSERC grad student funding levels. I had NSERC during my MSc & PhD: it was excellent support. Now, it's embarassing. #SupportOurScience
In 2010, I got a scholarship during my MSc.
