#OnThisDay in 1922 the #IrishCivilWar began with the shelling of the Four Courts in #Dublin .

Lasting for 10 months, the #IrishCivilWar claimed more casualties than the 2 year-long War of Independence.

While researching the Civil War you occasionally come across incidents that were certainly 'out of the ordinary' such as in late March 1922 when while fising in the Slaney near Enniscorthy a Mr. Tim Butler caught a grenade!
