Tim Holt-Wilson The National Lottery The Brecks Fen Edge & Rivers Landscape Partnership It would be nice to organise an equivalent BM & BO for the western fen edge - a kind of 'we'll show you ours if you show us yours', compare & contrast, same but different field trip....

Q: What did you enjoy most about 'Burnt Mounds & Bog Oaks'?
Participant: 'Finding out about soil, archaeology & geology, and putting it all together to tell a captivating story about the Fens, which I previously thought was a boring man-made landscape'. The National Lottery The Brecks Fen Edge & Rivers Landscape Partnership

Antoine et al Last interglacial calcareous tufa sequence at Caours (Somme basin, France)
We also need to sample low terraces of UK rivers to ensure we arenā€™t missing Stage 5e sites.

Graham Bathe drew my attention to the mutual exclusively of wild garlic and bluebell patches in ancient woodland. This is in Gopher Wood, Wiltshire; does it indicate chemical traces of earlier land use? The wood sits on top of prehistoric field systems and settlement

Old Frank - still, hunched & very patient - bides his time on the pond, watching moorhen comings & goings - jumps, flaps and stabs - collars a moorhen chick then swallows it - thinks a bit then flaps off like a grey pterodactyl to digest it somewhere quiet.

Shocked at Dan Poulter defection. Takes a lot for someone to change party.

But has he only just realised this govt has been undermining the NHS?

In elections it's The Green Party challenging Conservatives in rural Suffolk & we're arguing for investment the NHS needs.

Dr Peter Allen, you have created a masterpiece šŸ‘ and found some bedding structure in the deposit. Horrible bedding, but more than we hoped for! Amazing work for our and excellent training for Natural History Museum British Geological Survey

The cost of natural history books can be a barrier for naturalists, which is why NNNS teamed up with the Ted Ellis Trust to put together a research library (which is held at Wheatfen). If there are any field guides or ID books you think we should have then let us know

Elana Rowlands, 10, discovers megalodon tooth at Bawdsey Beach. No giant megs when we were there with ā¦Tim Holt-Wilsonā© last September, but we did see a couple of London Clay teeth, and splendid Red Crag molluscs. A grand day out. suffolknews.co.uk/felixstowe/girā€¦

What's left of a Wels catfish (Silurus glanis) at Hockwold, no doubt caught by an otter, reveals its wide mouth with Palaeozoic-looking jaw plates and fine dentition. This specimen was nowhere near 3m length they can attain, but it's still an impressive gob. Norfolk and Norwich Naturalistsā€™ Society

In 1977, Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most influential 20th c. Spanish-language writers, told William F. Buckley (whose first language was Spanish) his reasons for feeling, age 78, that English was 'far finer' than his native tongue. Right or wrong, I love his savor for language
