Adult deletion carriers had worse glycemic control despite higher usage of anti-diabetic drugs and were more likely to develop metabolic liver disease and renal impairment.

Studies of over 700,000 individuals in the UK and Estonian biobanks showed that adult carriers of a deletion on chromosome 16 have early-onset #obesity and difficult-to-treat type 2 #diabetes . The deletion includes SH2B1, which is involved in leptin and insulin signaling.
