We’re so excited to be launching our Glaswelltiroedd Gwydn (Resilient Grasslands) project, a new Welsh partnership focussed on increasing the resilience of protected grasslands throughout Wales.

Our grasslands are the unsung heroes of carbon storage and biodiversity support 🌿

The meadows and uplands of Wales support ~ 112 species of grassland fungi ~ 55% of those found in Britain. Waxcaps species such as the rare olive earthtongue (Microglossum olivaceum) grow in low-nutrient conditions and indicate high quality ‘unimproved’ grassland #UKFungusDay

Also found on our outing on Saturday - this Parrot Waxcap (Gliophorus psittacinus). The dark green colour is a great id feature - sometimes just at the top of the stem but here all the way down and on the cap. These are usually found in unimproved grassland. #fungi

It's Waxcap season! If you see any of these brightly coloured fungi you know you are in 'unimproved' grassland that is good for wildlife #waxcaps

Here are some stunning photos taken by Ellie Baggott Wye Valley AONB of New Grove wild flower meadow. The site located near Trellech and managed by Gwent Wildlife Trust. We visited these meadows on one of our walks during our Walking Festival in April with Monmouthshire Meadows.
